Military Service
Paul Renneisen's father and six uncles served in the United States military during World War II. Their spirit of selfless dedication made such an impression on Paul that he joined the Air Force ROTC in college, even though the military draft already had ended.
After earning a degree in accounting, Paul joined the Air Force. He went on to serve as a pilot and pilot trainer in the United States and Europe.

His first assignment was to train aspiring pilots in the T-38 Talon also used by the U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds. Following his tour at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas, he was assigned to the United States Air Forces Europe. There, he rose through the ranks to assignments that included arranging for military deployments of the F-111 fighter-bomber to the Mediterranean. After seven years, he was given an Honorable Discharge.
A Family of Veterans
Paul's wife and brother also are military veterans, so he understands the issues that affect military families, both when a family member is deployed and when they come back home.
When soldiers risk their lives for our country, they deserve the best armor, training, support, and medical services.
After they come home, they deserve the education, healthcare, and other forms of assistance that helped Paul and his family members make the transition back to civilian life.
A Veteran for Peace
For over twenty years, Paul has served as a leader in the American Legion and member of the VFW, both fraternal organizations for military veterans. In 2006, however, the deception used by the Bush Administration to bring our nation into an ill-advised war in Iraq convinced him to also join Veterans for Peace. Since then, he has participated in peace vigils against the current Iraq War, and has pledged to stop the war, bring our troops home, and turn our attention to domestic priorities.
"When war is necessary," he said, "we all should sacrifice, like the Greatest Generation did in World War II. When war is not necessary, we should bring it to an end."
When Paul and other veterans are elected to Congress this November, they will have the numbers and the resolve to force an end to the war and a re-focusing on the many domestic issues that require the attention of Congress.
