Healthcare for Our Veterans
Most veterans do not qualify to go to a Veterans Administration Medical Center due to means testing. In other words, they have too much income. They are removed from their benefits because of their success in society.
As an Air Force veteran and small business owner, I believe that this must change. Veterans should have access to health care and should not have to become poor to qualify.
A military officer recently told Congress that military personnel, in his opinion, should be paying health care premiums at the same rate paid by the civilian populations. If I had been sitting as the 22nd District's Representative in that hearing room, that officer would have gotten an earful from me.
Our military servicemen and women are not paid private sector wages, and lose out on the seniority that others get when they stay in the civilian sector. They risk their lives every day they are on combat duty, and sometimes return to civilian life with post-traumatic stress and other issues that delay their entry into the civilian workforce.
The 22nd District deserves a Congressman who will truly stand up for our troops. As a veteran myself, I will bring them home, and give them the jobs, education and health care benefits they deserve for having defended our nation.
