Fighting Terrorism
As an airline pilot for the last 23 years and a member of the Federal Flight Deck Officers Association (FFDO), not a single day goes by that I do not think about the threat of terrorism in our country. The threat of another airline hijacking is miniscule thanks to security enhancements by the FFDO program of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), but we can never let down our guard in this age of global threats.
As a civil liberties supporter, however, I also realize that we cannot let our fear of terrorist actions lead to a pre-emptive limiting of our Constitutional guarantees. The current Congress has gone too far to back the President's trampling of the Bill of Rights. As the Congressman from the 22nd District, I will be a strong advocate for public safety and enhanced security measures, while remembering to safeguard our freedom and privacy. We must be free to worship as we please and speak our minds, without fear of government intrusion.
