Property Insurance

If you had a choice of not owning a house or buying a mortgage-specific insurance policy, which would you choose? As the founder of a federally-regulated and insured Credit Union, I was amazed that Congress has not yet fixed this problem for property owners of the 22nd Congressional District. When I am elected to the next Congress, this will be one of my priorities.

In light of recent natural disasters around the nation, the problem facing the insurance industry today is defining risk. All homeowners in states such as Florida are penalized with high premiums, which amounts to subsidies for people in high-risk coastal and earthquake zones.

As an alternative, I would promote federally-insured insurance that offers lower premiums if the risk is lower. This, in turn, would lower premiums, promote home sales, and help our stagnant housing market.
